U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Attorney General Pam Bondi will no longer remain in her position.
In a post shared on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday, Trump confirmed that Bondi is being removed from the top law enforcement role. Earlier, several media reports suggested that Trump was dissatisfied with how Bondi handled documents related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, which led him to consider her removal.
Trump stated that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as interim Attorney General.
In his post, Trump wrote that Pam Bondi is a great patriot of the United States and a loyal friend who has served faithfully as his Attorney General over the past year. However, he did not specify any concrete reason for her dismissal, simply adding, “We love Pam.” He also mentioned that Bondi will soon take on a “very important and highly needed” role in the private sector.
Before Bondi, Trump had also abruptly dismissed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
According to media reports, Trump is now considering appointing Lee Zeldin as the next head of the Department of Justice. Zeldin is currently serving as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Jeffrey Epstein, who had been convicted, died in prison in 2019. His case has repeatedly drawn attention, with Trump’s name appearing multiple times in related documents. Under a bill passed by Congress, the U.S. Department of Justice was required to release Epstein-related records.
These documents were released during Bondi’s tenure, though lawmakers have alleged that they were not disclosed in full.
