On Easter Sunday, President Donald Trump posted a highly controversial message on social media platform Truth Social, threatening Iran over the Strait of Hormuz while concluding the post with the phrase “Praise be to Allah.”

Although Trump invoked the name of Allah, his message drew sharp criticism from the American Muslim community. The leading U.S. Muslim civil rights organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), condemned the post, accusing the president of mocking Islam and using religious language to justify threats against civilian infrastructure in Iran—actions CAIR described as indicative of potential “war crimes.”

In a statement, CAIR said, “President Trump’s distorted Islamophobic remarks, combined with threats against Iranian civilian facilities, are reckless and dangerous. They reflect a mindset that is both cavalier toward human life and disrespectful of religious beliefs.”

The post’s controversial ending—“Praise be to Allah”—has been widely discussed. While many in the Western world associate the phrase exclusively with Islam, CAIR emphasized that the term “Allah” simply refers to God in Arabic and is not unique to any single religion.

CAIR also argued that Trump’s post is part of a long-standing pattern of anti-Muslim rhetoric and policy, and warned that using religious language to accompany violent threats is a troubling tactic that weaponizes faith while simultaneously denigrating Muslims.

The post has sparked a storm of criticism across social media platforms. Analysts warn that statements of this nature, touching on international politics and religious sensitivities, risk escalating tensions and inflaming global outrage.
