Reports have emerged of a deadly drone strike at the Shuwaiba Port in Kuwait on March 1, in which six members of the U.S. Army Reserve were allegedly killed and more than 20 others injured. The incident is described as the first reported combat-related fatalities for U.S. forces in the ongoing conflict.

According to statements attributed to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, an Iranian drone reportedly bypassed air defense systems and struck a secured tactical operations center. The Pentagon described the drone as an Iranian “squirter” type unmanned aerial system.

However, accounts from personnel of the 103rd Sustainment Command have publicly challenged that version of events. Service members speaking out for the first time said the strike hit a less secure facility than officially described, contradicting claims that the site was heavily fortified.

One injured soldier reportedly said the attack was not the result of a drone slipping through a defensive gap, but rather exposed vulnerabilities in base protection. Another service member stated that their unit had been relocated to an area already known to be within range of Iranian drones and missiles, raising concerns about operational risk assessments.

According to these accounts, an earlier morning alert prompted troops to take shelter, followed by an “all clear” signal shortly before the strike occurred. Approximately 30 minutes later, the drone reportedly impacted the base, causing significant destruction.

Survivors described chaotic conditions following the explosion, with heavy dust, smoke, and widespread injuries from shrapnel. Some injured personnel reportedly had to administer initial aid themselves and rely on civilian vehicles to reach medical facilities, suggesting gaps in immediate evacuation response.

In contrast, Assistant Secretary of Defense Sean Parnell stated on social media platform X that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure troop safety.

An earlier unnamed official was also quoted as saying it remains unclear whether a functioning air defense system was present at the site, and that no warning signals were heard as the drone approached.

The competing accounts highlight ongoing uncertainty and disagreement over the circumstances of the incident, which has become a point of political and military scrutiny amid the broader regional conflict.
