U.S. President Donald Trump has officially unveiled a Boeing 747 aircraft gifted by Qatar, describing it as a “flying White House” and announcing that it will serve as an interim presidential aircraft until the next-generation Air Force One fleet enters service.
Speaking after inspecting the aircraft at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said the plane had been transformed into a state-of-the-art presidential aircraft in just ten months.
“This is an aircraft that has become a flying White House,” Trump said. “Its luxury and capabilities are unlike anything seen before. The work was completed in only ten months.”
According to the president, the aircraft will be used for official presidential travel until the permanent replacement Air Force One fleet becomes operational.
Trump also claimed that the aircraft is the largest presidential plane ever built and offers improved speed and performance compared with previous presidential aircraft.
Various sources have estimated the aircraft’s value at approximately $400 million. During the unveiling ceremony, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar for the gift and highlighted the aircraft’s modern interior design, advanced communications systems, and upgraded technological features.
The president also suggested that the aircraft could participate in military flyover events planned for next year’s celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Air Force confirmed that the aircraft, known as the VC-25B Bridge, has officially joined the Presidential Airlift Group. Before assuming full operational duties, the aircraft will undergo a series of commissioning and certification flights.
Air Force officials said the aircraft features a new red, white, and blue exterior design and has undergone the necessary government modifications to meet presidential transportation and security requirements.
The aircraft is expected to serve as a temporary solution while the United States continues work on the next generation of Air Force One aircraft, which have faced years of delays and rising costs.
The unveiling comes as the administration seeks to modernize the presidential air fleet and enhance the capabilities available to the commander-in-chief during domestic and international travel.
