The United States has accused Iran of disrupting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Tehran's actions are putting global trade and the world economy at risk.

Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, U.S. Ambassador Michael Waltz said Iran has been interfering with vessels transiting the strategic waterway without regard to their cargo or destination.

According to the U.S. envoy, the disruptions have affected the movement of commercial shipping, including deliveries of food, humanitarian aid, and energy supplies, raising concerns over the stability of global supply chains.

Waltz also warned that Washington's "patience has limits," signaling growing U.S. concern over Iran's activities in one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Spehar, the U.N. Assistant Secretary-General, cautioned that any renewed military confrontation between the United States and Iran could have devastating consequences for the Middle East, international security, and the global economy.

She said indirect talks between Washington and Tehran are continuing in Doha, Qatar, and urged all parties to maintain the ceasefire and pursue diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important shipping routes, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports passing through the narrow waterway each day.
