Fact-Checking US President Donald Trump’s UNGA Speech: Exaggerations and Inaccuracies

US President Donald Trump’s 37-minute address at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly has drawn widespread analysis. While considered slightly less combative than his previous speeches, fact-checkers and analysts have identified several false, exaggerated, and misleading claims regarding global conflicts, climate change, foreign investments, and domestic crime rates.

Trump reiterated his claim of successfully ending eight wars since taking office. However, analysts point out that disputes such as the one between Egypt and Ethiopia were diplomatic rather than active military conflicts, while the situation in Kosovo and Serbia did not constitute a war, and fighting in the DRC and Gaza persists. On climate change, Trump falsely claimed that the Earth is cooling and that no one has died due to global warming—assertions that directly contradict World Meteorological Organization data highlighting record-breaking global temperatures and mounting climate-related casualties.

Discrepancies were also noted regarding economic and defense claims. Trump boasted securing $21 trillion in new global investment commitments, though official White House tracking records a much lower figure of $11.2 trillion. Furthermore, while Trump vehemently denied any depletion in US weapons stockpiles due to ongoing conflicts with Iran, recent reports from the Pentagon and the Congressional Budget Office indicate that certain military inventories have indeed strained. Additionally, his claim that crime in Washington has plummeted by 87% conflicts with local police data, which records a decrease of roughly 23%.
