Although it is now certain which party will hold the majority in Congress in January, the outcomes of several US House races are still pending.
Results for most of the 435 House seats were announced by Wednesday, but around 24 races remain too close to call.
These include several districts in Tennessee, Louisiana and Virginia, where the margins between candidates are so narrow that winners have yet to be determined.
Results from several congressional districts in Arizona, California and Colorado are also still outstanding.
In Alaska, it could take several weeks before the final results are known, as the state has one of the most competitive House races in the country.
One reason for the potential delay is Alaska's ranked-choice voting system, which allows voters to rank multiple candidates in order of preference rather than selecting only one.
