NEWS DESKEuropean Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller has described the signing of the July National Charter 2025 as a pivotal step toward political consensus and reform, as Bangladesh prepares for national elections scheduled for early 2026.
In a Facebook post following Friday’s signing ceremony, Ambassador Miller wrote, “I was delighted to join the signing ceremony of the July Charter, a document which sets out broad political consensus on fundamental reforms.”
He added that the event marked “an important moment in the country’s political transition, demonstrating unity of purpose as Bangladesh moves towards elections in early 2026.”
The charter, signed at a high-profile gathering, brought together representatives from 25 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Ambassador Miller’s presence underscored the European Union’s continued engagement with Bangladesh’s democratic process and its commitment to supporting governance reforms.

In recent months, the EU has reiterated its support for free, fair, and inclusive elections, offering technical cooperation and exploring the deployment of election observation missions.
These efforts align with the EU’s broader commitment to democratic principles and sustainable development in the region.
