Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has pledged to build friendly and cooperative relations with neighboring India if it comes to power, according to its election manifesto.
The party announced its 41-point election manifesto on Wednesday evening at a programme held at Hotel Sheraton in the capital, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman unveiled the manifesto at the event.
Outlining its proposed foreign policy, the party said it would work to enhance Bangladesh’s international standing and improve the global value and dignity of the Bangladeshi passport. The manifesto also emphasizes strengthening good relations with neighboring countries.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami, if elected to power it would seek to establish peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations based on mutual respect and fairness with neighboring and nearby countries, including India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Thailand.
The party further stated that it would prioritize strengthening ties with the Muslim world, while also fostering constructive relations with developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, and Canada.
In addition, Jamaat-e-Islami said it would take effective measures to expand relations with countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America if it assumes power.
