Movement Will Continue Until Demands Are Met: Opposition Leader

A protest march towards the Secretariat by leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance, organized to protest against fuel and gas crises, abnormal electricity bills, deteriorating law and order, and soaring essential commodity prices, was blocked by police on Thursday (August 6).

Following the police obstruction near the Secretariat, opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman declared at a brief rally that their movement will persist until their demands are fully met.

Addressing the gathering, the opposition leader stated that they did not come to disrespect anyone but to voice the 11-point demands of the 180 million citizens. He emphasized that these demands are not for the interest of any single party or group, but for safeguarding the rights of the general public. Urging the government to act responsibly, Dr. Rahman noted that the Secretariat belongs to the people and those in charge must listen to public grievances and take immediate steps to resolve them.
