State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid has stated that India must decide the future trajectory of Bangladesh-India relations. She made the remarks while talking to reporters on Thursday evening in response to a press conference held in New Delhi by ousted Prime Minister and death-row convict Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
Obaid expressed her belief that both the governments and the citizens of the two nations desire stronger bilateral ties. However, she warned that allowing ousted Awami League leaders and convicted figures to carry on conspiratorial activities from Indian soil—if left unchecked by the Indian government—remains a major concern for the people of Bangladesh.
Describing bilateral ties as multidimensional and emphasizing that outstanding issues should be resolved through dialogue, the State Minister asserted that New Delhi must now decide whether it will continue to permit convicted autocrats to deliver political statements from its territory.
