Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has said that the country has embraced multilateralism as the cornerstone of its foreign policy since joining the United Nations. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to global peace, security, and cooperation.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a reception marking the country’s 56th Independence and National Day, organized by the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, according to a message received in Dhaka.
Around 150 permanent representatives, senior UN officials, and members of the diplomatic community attended the event.
The foreign minister noted that since becoming a member of the United Nations in 1974, Bangladesh has consistently contributed to peacekeeping efforts. He also highlighted the country’s continued humanitarian support for Rohingya refugees.
He added that despite facing multiple challenges, Bangladesh has achieved significant socio-economic progress over the past five decades through constructive engagement guided by the UN Charter.
In his welcome speech, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, said that March 26 symbolizes not only the birth of a nation but also the enduring triumph of the people’s will, dignity, and freedom.
