National Parliament opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has extended greetings and congratulations to the people of Bangladesh and the global Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijri.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes marking the beginning of the new Hijri year.

Dr. Rahman said that the Hijri calendar is based on the historic migration (Hijrah) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions from Makkah to Madinah. He described Hijrah as not merely a physical relocation but a transformative moment in Islamic history, symbolizing the struggle against injustice and the establishment of truth, justice, and an Islamic society.

He added that the Hijri calendar is an integral part of Muslim history, heritage, and culture.

Calling for reflection at the start of the new year, he urged Muslims to erase past mistakes and renew their commitment to Islamic values in personal, social, and national life. He emphasized the importance of unity, brotherhood, and mutual compassion within the Muslim Ummah in the current global and national context.

Dr. Rahman said that the spirit of sacrifice and resilience demonstrated during the Hijrah should inspire efforts to eliminate injustice, corruption, and inequality from society through collective action.

He prayed for the new Hijri year to bring spiritual purification, piety, justice, honesty, and humanitarian values into the lives of individuals, families, and society. He also prayed for Bangladesh to remain free from crises, instability, and division, and for greater harmony and moral values among its people.

He concluded by calling for collective efforts to build a just, humane, and prosperous Bangladesh, and prayed for the protection of the Muslim Ummah from all forms of hardship and oppression.
