China has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's allegations of Chinese interference in U.S. elections, dismissing the claims as "groundless" and "malicious propaganda."
Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump claimed that the U.S. electoral system faces serious security threats and urged lawmakers to introduce stricter voting regulations. However, the proposal has received limited support, including within his own Republican Party.
During his remarks, Trump alleged that China had illegally collected data on approximately 220 million American voters, including names, addresses, and voter registration information. He also accused several U.S. intelligence officials of deliberately withholding critical information about China's alleged activities.
Responding to the allegations at a press briefing on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian strongly denied the accusations, describing them as fabricated and politically motivated. He said the claims had long been proven to be baseless.
Lin stressed that China has no interest in interfering in U.S. elections and has never attempted to do so. He added that the international community is well aware of which country has a history of interfering in the internal affairs of other nations.
The Chinese spokesperson urged the United States to engage in self-reflection rather than making unfounded accusations against China. He also called on Washington to refrain from politicizing election-related issues and to work toward improving bilateral relations.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 U.S. presidential election, in which he lost to Democratic candidate Joe Biden, was marred by widespread fraud. However, he has not presented credible evidence to substantiate those allegations.
More than 60 post-election lawsuits challenging the results failed to establish fraud sufficient to alter the outcome. Recounts, audits, and investigations—including those conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice during the Trump administration—also found no evidence of fraud capable of changing the election result.
