Saudi-Led Coalition Says Drone Heading Towards Mecca Intercepted

A drone heading towards Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca has been intercepted, according to the Saudi-led military coalition.

Colonel Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, confirmed the incident on Friday.

The coalition said its forces had intercepted and destroyed a drone approaching the Mecca region of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement shared on social media, al-Maliki confirmed that the drone had been neutralised by coalition forces over the Mecca region.

There was no immediate response from Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebel group regarding the reported incident.

The circumstances surrounding the drone launch, including its origin and intended target, were not immediately clear.
