Netanyahu stated on Tuesday to Israeli media that he feels a "connection" to the vision of a 'Greater Israel,' even considering himself to be on "a historical and spiritual mission" meant for "the generations of Jews who dreamt of coming here, and for the generations that will come after us."
According to Israeli news outlets, the term "Greater Israel" in Israeli politics refers to the expansion of Israel's territory, including the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights of Syria. This mission is also said to encompass parts of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and some areas of Jordan.
In response to Netanyahu's comments, Egypt sought clarification. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement calling these remarks "inconsistent with the aspirations of regional and international parties who value peace and seek security and peace for all peoples of the region."
Meanwhile, Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeled Netanyahu's comments as "dangerous and provocative, escalating tensions, threatening the sovereignty of states, and violating international law and the United Nations Charter."
