NEWS DESKA judicial employee has been arrested for allegedly throwing a sandwich at a federal agent deployed in Washington D.C. following President Donald Trump's declaration of a "state of emergency" to combat crime.
The agent had been stationed in the capital as part of a security measure, alongside National Guard and federal law enforcement, after Trump claimed that crime was rampant in the city due to drug-addicted immigrants.
The judicial employee, identified as Shawn Charles Dunn, was fired from his position in the Department of Justice. Reports indicate that he faces serious assault charges after the incident. On Sunday, Dunn, while in the presence of a Customs and Border Protection officer, allegedly threw a "submarine-style sandwich" at the federal agent.
Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing Dunn yelling "fascist" at the federal agent before saying, "Why are you here? I don't want you in my city." A few moments later, he returned and threw a sandwich wrapped in plastic at the agent. Prosecutors have not confirmed if the agent was injured, but it is known that the agent was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time.
After the incident, Dunn fled the scene but was arrested on Wednesday. He reportedly admitted to his actions without hesitation or remorse. According to CBS News, Dunn was working as a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s criminal division, handling international affairs.
Washington D.C. Attorney General Janine Pirro announced Dunn’s arrest in a video, stating, "He thought this was funny, but today it’s not funny anymore, because we’ve charged him with serious criminal offenses."
