Tensions have flared across various US cities following the fatal shooting of a woman by an immigration officer in Minnesota. From Minneapolis to Manhattan, protesters have filled the streets in anger.

Blaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the death, demonstrators are now demanding that the agency leave their cities immediately.

The shooting of Renee Nicole Good, an American woman, by an ICE officer sparked massive anti-ICE protests. On Thursday morning, approximately one thousand demonstrators gathered in front of an immigration court in Minneapolis. The situation escalated as protesters shouted slogans against federal officials, leading security forces to use tear gas and pepper balls to disperse the crowd.

In New York City’s Manhattan, hundreds of people also joined the movement, calling for the total dissolution of ICE. Protesters demanded that the agency's budget be abolished and redirected toward essential services like education, healthcare, and public housing.

Amidst the growing unrest, US Vice President JD Vance voiced strong support for the agency. He claimed the deceased woman was part of a broader leftist network and alleged that her actions interfered with the duties of ICE agents. Echoing Donald Trump, Vance stated that she had previously struck an agent with a vehicle six months ago.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the situation as a "terrible catastrophe" for Minnesota, pointing toward the Trump administration’s immigration policies as the root cause. However, her stance appeared complex as she had previously made comments supporting the immigration officers.

Meanwhile, Democratic Governor Tim Walz has called for a mandatory state-level criminal investigation. He criticized top-level officials, including the President and Vice President, for making unverified and misleading statements. He emphasized that the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension must lead the investigation into the killing.

The incident occurred last Wednesday in Minneapolis when 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot dead by an ICE official. The White House maintains that the officer fired the fatal shot in an act of self-defense.
