However, America’s top general has cautioned that such an attack could entangle the United States in a prolonged and costly conflict.
According to reports, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, has warned President Trump about the multifaceted risks of military aggression against Iran. He reportedly said that launching an attack could lead to a long-term and expensive confrontation.
On Monday (February 23), The Washington Post reported that Caine raised concerns at the White House and the United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) about shortages of ammunition and equipment, as well as a lack of allied support—factors that could put American troops at risk.
Similarly, The Wall Street Journal reported that Pentagon officials are wary of potential US and allied casualties and warned that American air defence systems could be significantly depleted if strikes are carried out inside Iran.
Caine also cautioned that the United States could become drawn into a “protracted conflict.”
President Trump rejected the reports on Monday, claiming on his social media platform Truth Social that assertions suggesting Caine opposes going to war with Iran are “100 percent wrong.” He accused media outlets of deliberately publishing false information.
The president also reiterated threats against Iran and “its people,” warning that if ongoing nuclear negotiations fail to produce an agreement, “very bad days” lie ahead for them.
