Protests erupted across the United States on Saturday against several policies of President Donald Trump, including his hardline anti-immigration stance and the possibility of war with Iran.

The anti-Trump demonstrations have become widely known as the “No Kings” protests. Saturday marked the third nationwide “No Kings” protest event in the country.

Organizers had planned demonstrations in more than 3,200 locations across all U.S. states. While previous protests drew hundreds of thousands of participants, this latest wave is believed to have attracted the largest turnout yet.

The biggest marches took place in New York CityDallasPhiladelphia, and Washington, D.C., although about two-thirds of the demonstrations were held outside major metropolitan areas. Organizers said participation in smaller towns has increased by around 40% compared to the first “No Kings” protest held last June.

A large rally was also held outside Saint Paul, the capital of Minnesota, where tensions remain high over Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement policies.

At the rally, many demonstrators carried posters, including images of Reni Good and Alex Pretty, who were reportedly shot and killed by federal immigration officers earlier this year in Minneapolis.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz addressed the crowd, saying that the protests themselves demonstrate the strength of America’s core values.
“We are called radicals,” Walz said. “That’s right—we are radical, because we are driven by humanity, decency, due process, democracy, and a commitment to resist authoritarianism.”

Bernie Sanders also spoke at the Minnesota rally, declaring, “We will not allow this country to fall into authoritarianism or oligarchy. This nation will remain governed by its people.”

In Manhattan, New York City, police estimated that nearly 100,000 people joined the protest. One of the organizers there was Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, who said, “No president before Trump has put our freedom and security at such existential risk.”

A 54-year-old protester, Holly Bemis, said participants were inspired by the same spirit as their ancestors during the American Revolution.
“We fought against kings before, and we fought for freedom,” she said. “Now we are doing it again.”

In Washington, D.C., crowds gathered at the National Mall chanting slogans in support of democracy while holding anti-Trump placards.

In Maryland, a group of elderly protesters in wheelchairs held signs reading “Resist authoritarianism,” “Speak up for democracy,” and “Say goodbye to Trump.”

In Dallas, thousands attended a rally where clashes broke out between “No Kings” protesters and opposing groups.

In Los Angeles, retired participant Teresa Ganner said she joined the protest because it is important for everyone to stand against authoritarianism, fascism, and greed.
“Everything Trump is doing is about enriching himself and taking wealth away from ordinary Americans,” she said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security reported that about 1,000 “rioters” surrounded a federal building, and two individuals were arrested for allegedly assaulting federal officers.

The Los Angeles Police Department said several protesters were arrested for refusing to leave areas near a federal detention facility. Police dispersed crowds using tear gas after demonstrators threw objects, including bricks, over barricades.
