U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced the end of the joint U.S.-Israel military campaign against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, signaling a shift toward diplomacy.
Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, Rubio said the operation had achieved its goals and that United States now prioritizes peace over further escalation. “Operation Epic Fury is complete. We have accomplished our objectives. We do not seek new tensions—peace is our priority,” he stated.
Rubio added that the administration of President Donald Trump is actively pursuing a diplomatic agreement with Tehran. According to Reuters, a 14-point deal could soon be signed between the two countries, potentially marking the end of the conflict. As part of such an agreement, Iran may reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
Meanwhile, Trump announced the suspension of the U.S. naval mission Project Freedom, which had been launched to escort vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the end of the operation, questions remain about whether the broader conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran has truly ended. Rubio emphasized that while the military phase has concluded, Washington is focused on securing a negotiated settlement.
He also highlighted ongoing mediation efforts by Pakistan, which has been facilitating direct talks between U.S. and Iranian officials. The first round of discussions held in Islamabad last month ended without a breakthrough, but both sides have since presented new proposals, raising cautious optimism for a peaceful resolution.
