The United Arab Emirates has contributed $100 million to the "Board of Peace," a leadership initiative by this country aimed at establishing a new Palestinian police force in Gaza.
According to Middle East Eye, citing Times of Israel, these funds are designated for the training and salaries of a new unit tasked with restoring law and order in Gaza. This represents the largest single donation since the donor conference last February, where board members pledged $7 billion and the federal government committed $10 billion.
Under the plan, a force of approximately 27,000 police personnel will be formed under the supervision of Emirati security agencies. Recruits are scheduled to undergo training in Jordan and Egypt. Diplomatic sources indicate that former public sector employees in Gaza will be eligible to join, provided they pass rigorous security vetting by Israeli intelligence. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to overhaul Gaza’s administrative and security infrastructure.
The police force will operate under the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, an interim technocratic body. Committee head Ali Shath emphasized that along with humanitarian aid, restoring stability is an urgent necessity given Gaza’s fragile state. Despite a ceasefire declaration on October 10, hostilities persist in the region. Most recently, a senior official from the Palestinian Interior Ministry was killed during an attack on a Gaza police station on Wednesday. Since the onset of the conflict, the death toll in Gaza has reportedly surpassed 72,000.
