Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that Iran will assume full supervision and management of the Strait of Hormuz for the next 30 days, amid heightened tensions with the United States.

Speaking during a visit to Iraq, Araghchi warned that any unilateral intervention by other countries in the strategic waterway could further complicate the situation and delay its full reopening.

"I briefed my Iraqi counterpart on the latest developments regarding the war imposed on Iran, as well as the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States," Araghchi said.

He added that the Strait of Hormuz would remain under Iran's complete supervision and management for the next 30 days.

"Once all obstacles have been removed, the full operational capacity of this vital waterway will be restored. We are working toward that objective," he said.

Araghchi stressed that responsibility for managing the strait rests solely with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"Under the memorandum of understanding, the matter is entirely clear. No other party or country has any role in this issue. Any intervention or unilateral action would only complicate the situation further and delay the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," he said.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints, through which a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes. Any disruption to navigation in the waterway can have major implications for international energy markets.
