Election After 18 Months

On August 5, 2024, the Bangladesh Awami League government stepped down amid a mass uprising. Subsequently, an interim administration led by Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus assumed office. This election was held 18 months later under that interim government.

A multi-layered security arrangement involving the army, BGB, RAB, and police was deployed to ensure a peaceful process. International observers described the overall election environment as satisfactory.

Casting his vote in Gulshan, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said, “Today marks the birth of a new Bangladesh. Through their votes, citizens are shaping the nation’s future.”
