Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over growing security risks to maritime navigation in light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, calling for intensified diplomatic efforts to ensure safe and uninterrupted global shipping.
The concerns were raised during the 36th extraordinary session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held in London. The emergency meeting was convened to discuss the situation in the Middle East and its global implications.
According to a statement from the Bangladesh High Commission in London, the country’s delegation was led by Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Nazrul Islam.
Speaking at the session, he said Bangladesh is deeply concerned about the safety and welfare of seafarers worldwide, including Bangladeshi sailors working on vessels operating in conflict-affected areas.
Bangladesh also reaffirmed its support for the principle of freedom of navigation for all vessels under international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
During the meeting, the delegation urged all parties involved to resolve the ongoing crisis through constructive dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
