Bangladesh has signed its fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) with the International Atomic Energy Agency for the period 2026–2032, outlining priorities for technical cooperation and the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

The agreement was signed on March 18 in Vienna, the headquarters of the IAEA.

Representing the Government of Bangladesh, Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md. Anwar Hossain signed the framework, while Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed on behalf of the IAEA.

The Country Programme Framework (CPF) serves as a key reference document that defines medium-term technical cooperation priorities between the IAEA and its member states. Under this framework, priority sectors are identified where nuclear technology and technical assistance can contribute to achieving national development goals.

Bangladesh has been a member of the IAEA since 1972.

The newly signed CPF for 2026–2032 outlines seven priority areas: nuclear and radiation safety and security, energy, food and agriculture, human health, water and environment, nuclear knowledge development and management, and industrial applications of radiation technology.

Officials say the implementation of this framework will further expand the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Bangladesh and support sustainable progress across multiple development sectors.
