The body of Bangladeshi student Jamil Ahmed Limon, who was killed in the United States, has been returned to Bangladesh.
The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47 a.m. Bangladesh time on Monday aboard an Emirates flight. According to airport sources, the body was released to family members around 10:00 a.m. through Gate 8. Relatives broke down in tears upon receiving the remains.
Limon’s body was later transported to his ancestral home in Jamalpur, where funeral prayers will be held before his burial.
In a statement, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington said the body was flown from Orlando International Airport at around 8:50 p.m. local time on Saturday.
Earlier, funeral prayers were held on Thursday at an Islamic center in the Tampa Bay area, attended by students from the University of South Florida and members of the Bangladeshi community.
Limon, 27, was pursuing a PhD in geography, environmental science, and policy at the University of South Florida. He had been missing since April 16, along with another student, Nahida Sultana Brishti, also 27.
Police arrested Limon’s roommate, Hisham Abughrabeh, a U.S. citizen, as the main suspect. Following interrogation, Limon’s body was recovered on April 24 from a black bag near the Howard Frankland Bridge.
On April 26, fishermen discovered dismembered body parts in another black plastic bag in a mangrove area. Authorities later confirmed on April 30 that the remains belonged to Nahida Sultana Brishti.
Abughrabeh has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Authorities also reported recovering a weapon from his possession.
