Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, economic and planning adviser to the prime minister of Bangladesh, has said the government aims to leverage its trade agreement with the United States to help stabilize and strengthen Bangladesh's fragile economy.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after a meeting at the Secretariat with Brendan Lynch, the U.S. Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, Titumir emphasized that Dhaka intends to move forward by respecting the existing agreement rather than seeking to cancel it.
He noted that efforts are underway to expand bilateral trade within the current framework, while keeping room for dialogue if any provisions conflict with national interests.
Titumir highlighted the importance of utilizing U.S. technological and innovative capacity to support Bangladesh’s economic recovery. He pointed in particular to the pharmaceutical sector as a key area for boosting exports and increasing productivity.
On foreign policy, he reiterated that Bangladesh does not favor exclusive alignment with any single country, but instead seeks inclusive and balanced relationships globally.
He added that discussions are ongoing to further strengthen trade ties not only with the United States but also with other friendly nations.
