Mia Golam Porwar, the Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has raised concerns over regional disparity in national development projects.
Speaking at the biennial conference of the Bangladesh Railway Employees League on Friday (May 8), he questioned whether development is reserved only for areas represented by the Prime Minister or the Home Minister. He pointed out that while certain regions are being upgraded with new City Corporations and Upazilas, other areas remain neglected, fueling a sense of inequality.
Criticizing the current state of governance, Porwar stated that despite the blood-stained sacrifice of the anti-discrimination movement, a truly equitable society has yet to be established. He urged the government to break free from "remote-controlled" hegemonies and focus on justice. Furthermore, he blamed systemic corruption for the lack of progress in the railway sector, noting that while global rail networks are flourishing, Bangladesh lags behind. He called for the protection of workers' rights and emphasized a sovereign foreign policy free from external prescriptions.
