Attempts Are Being Made to Destabilize the Country Over Unnecessary Issues: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has remarked that certain factions are making deliberate attempts to destabilize the post-fascist nation by stirring up unwarranted and irrelevant issues. He warned that such actions might inadvertently pave the way for the resurgence of the ousted, defeated, and fugitive autocrats.

He made these remarks while delivering his written speech at the inauguration ceremony of the "July Uprising Memorial Museum" at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, held in observance of the July Uprising Day. Former Chief Advisor of the interim government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus was present at the event. Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister explored various galleries of the museum, observing historical photographs, video footage, and preserved artifacts from the mass uprising. Later, he participated in a discussion session titled "July 36."

The Prime Minister stated that August 5 marks a monumental milestone in the democratic history of Bangladesh. For over a decade and a half, countless individuals endured enforced disappearances, abductions, and torture during the anti-fascist movement. Thousands of students and citizens embraced martyrdom, while many others sustained injuries during the July-August mass uprising. Criticizing the previous regime, he noted that brutal suppression was unleashed on pro-democracy crowds, including indiscriminate firing from helicopters.

Highlighting the significance of the memorial museum, Tarique Rahman stated that it will preserve the legacy of all democratic struggles in Bangladesh, extending beyond just the events of 2024. He assured that transparent, neutral, and credible legal trials for all casualties during the anti-fascist movement will be ensured without any political vendetta. He also outlined various government initiatives for the treatment and regular allowances of the injured fighters, adding that efforts to rebuild the nation through the 31-point manifesto, the July Charter, and constitutional reforms are actively progressing.

Addressing the event, Dr. Muhammad Yunus described the museum as a novel chapter in the nation's history and a bridge between the past and the future. Unlike conventional museums around the world that curate ancient antiquities, this institution uniquely preserves raw, firsthand accounts of contemporary history.
