Ensuring Dignity of July Martyrs' Families and Fighters is Government's Sacred Duty: Acting President

Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikrom has stated that ensuring the welfare of July mass uprising martyrs' families, alongside the medical treatment and rehabilitation of injured fighters, is the government's most significant and sacred responsibility.

He made these remarks while addressing a reception and discussion program as the chief guest, organized at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on Thursday to mark "July Mass Uprising Day 2026." The event was presided over by Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan, with Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain attending as special guests.

The Acting President noted that the historic student-people uprising in 2024 put an end to long-standing fascist rule. Paying deep tribute to martyrs like Abu Sayed, Mugdho, Wasim, and Riya Gopal, he expressed dismay that injured fighters have to wander from door to door for basic needs, calling it shameful for the nation. Assuring the July fighters of government support, he pledged that all possible resources will be utilized to honor and care for them.

Criticizing the ousted regime for past atrocities including enforced disappearances and money laundering without showing any remorse, he responded to threats of a political comeback by welcoming them to face the public on the streets. Emphasizing that both the 1971 Liberation War and the July uprising were fought for democracy, he called upon citizens to stay united above divisions to safeguard national interests.
