Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated after the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The United States has carried out airstrikes on multiple targets across Iran, while Israeli forces have intensified attacks in Lebanon.

The escalation follows statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had vowed to retaliate for the deaths of U.S. personnel and called for the removal of Tehran’s clerical rulers.

Iranian military forces have responded with widespread missile and drone attacks across the region. Several casualties have been reported in both Israel and the United Arab Emirates as a result of these strikes.

On Sunday, the U.S. military announced a strike targeting the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Israeli military reported conducting large-scale attacks on targets in Tehran and launching bombings against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

Hezbollah, in turn, claimed responsibility for firing rockets and drones at Israel to avenge Khamenei’s killing. Both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have called for the overthrow of Iran’s government.

The Pentagon confirmed that three U.S. soldiers were killed and five seriously injured during the “Epic Fury” operation. Trump had promised strong retaliation against Iran in response to U.S. casualties.

Iranian leaders have defended the retaliatory strikes as justified. Missile attacks in Tel Aviv and Beit Shemesh reportedly killed at least nine people, with several dozen more injured. Inside Iran, official sources report at least 201 fatalities and hundreds more wounded, including Khamenei’s top adviser Ali Shamkhani and IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour.

The situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile, and it is unclear when stability might be restored. International reactions to the conflict have been mixed, reflecting growing concern over the escalation.
