A classified evaluation submitted by the CIA to the White House this week suggests that Iran remains capable of withstanding the ongoing naval blockade for at least three to four months before facing a critical economic collapse.

The report warns that Iran’s military strength is significantly more intact than President Donald Trump has publicly claimed, challenging the administration’s narrative of an absolute military victory.

According to a report by the Washington Post on Thursday (May 7), sources familiar with the CIA’s assessment revealed that approximately 75% of Iran's mobile missile launchers and 70% of its ballistic missile stockpile remain operational. This stands in sharp contrast to President Trump’s statement on Wednesday, where he claimed that Iran’s missile power had been "nearly destroyed," falling to just 18-19%. The intelligence agency further noted that Tehran has successfully reactivated bombed entrances to underground arsenals and has even assembled new missiles from pre-existing components.

While the President and his cabinet, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, have hailed the blockade as a "final strangulation" of the Iranian economy, the CIA provides a more cautious reality. Although Trump claimed Iran is losing $500 million daily in oil revenue, intelligence analysts believe Iran can partially offset these losses through overland smuggling routes, potentially extending its survival beyond the predicted four-month window. One official noted that the Iranian leadership appears "hardened and confident," believing they can outlast Washington's political resolve.

The current tensions trace back to February 28, when Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz—a vital passage for 20% of global oil and gas. In response, the US began a naval blockade of Iranian ports on April 13, forcibly diverting ships to and from the country. While Iranian forces have labeled these actions as "piracy," the CIA emphasizes that the window for reaching a meaningful agreement on missile control is rapidly shrinking as Tehran continues to ramp up production.
