Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman has said that army personnel deployed in the field during 2024 have played a vital role in ensuring national stability and are now gradually returning to their barracks as the country situation improves.

He made the remarks while addressing the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the Bangladesh Army Firing Competition-2026 held at Comilla Cantonment on Thursday as the chief guest.

Referring to the army’s deployment in 2024, the Army Chief said soldiers had performed duties in the national interest during a critical period. “As the country is now stable, they are gradually returning to their barracks. The nation will remember their contribution with gratitude during that critical time,” he said.

Congratulating the winning and runner-up teams, General Waker-uz-Zaman praised the soldiers for maintaining high levels of skill and professionalism. “Despite 18 months of field deployment, the level of proficiency demonstrated in the firing competition is truly remarkable,” he added.

The competition began on May 16 under the overall supervision of Headquarters 33 Infantry Division. A total of 17 teams participated, including formations of the Bangladesh Army, logistics areas, five independent brigades, and the Para Commando Brigade.

The 17 Infantry Division emerged as champions, while the Para Commando Brigade secured the runner-up position.

Senior military officials, including the Master General of Ordnance, the Commandant of Bangladesh Ordnance Factories, General Officers Commanding of various divisions and area commands, and other senior officers and personnel, were present at the event.
