The U.S. federal government shutdown has entered its third day, raising fears of widespread project cancellations and mass employee furloughs. President Donald Trump has held talks with the head of the Office of Management and Budget and blamed Democrats for the impasse. However, Democratic leaders say they are ready to negotiate to resolve the crisis.

Over 750,000 federal employees have been partially or fully furloughed, while military personnel and border agents have been ordered to work without pay, according to the White House. If the shutdown continues, food assistance for 7 million Americans could be threatened, though critical services such as Social Security will remain operational.

President Trump warned that if the deadlock continues, projects favored by Democrats may be permanently shut down, saying,

“I have the authority to shut down programs that should never have been approved.”

Federal workers have voiced deep anxiety over missed paychecks and job insecurity, with some describing the situation as a “psychological war.”

One federal employee stated:

“We’ve become paralyzed. Lawmakers know we want to get back to work. People need to feed their families.”

Democratic congressional leader Hakeem Jeffries said they are willing to meet the President and Vice President anytime, anywhere to reach a funding deal that reflects the needs of the American people,
but also noted a lack of willingness from Republicans to engage in dialogue after recent White House talks.

While some residents and tourists blamed both parties for the crisis, many admitted they had yet to fully feel the impact of the shutdown in their daily lives.
