Facing intense public backlash and political pressure the Trump administration has signaled a potential scale-back of its rigorous anti-immigrant operations in Minnesota. Tom Homan the White House Border Chief announced on Thursday that a drawdown plan is being prepared for federal agents stationed in the state as public safety becomes a higher priority.

This decision comes after the controversial Operation Metro Surge led by ICE resulted in over 10,000 detentions and the tragic deaths of two US citizens during raids which sparked outrage even within the Republican party.

Homan acknowledged that there were lapses in professional conduct during the recent operations and emphasized that future actions would be targeted rather than broad-based street sweeps. He also held meetings with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and local officials to discuss de-escalating the situation while maintaining that agents would remain until core issues are resolved. Amidst this ongoing tension Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar has announced her candidacy for Governor of Minnesota criticizing the massive influx of ICE agents for deepening divisions and instability across the state.
