Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Professor Miah Golam Porwar, held separate meetings with the advisers to the Ministries of Education, Home Affairs, Water Resources, and Environment & Forests at the Secretariat on Sunday-Monday.

The discussions focused on resolving various socio-economic and environmental challenges in the Dumuria and Phultala areas of Khulna district.

During his meeting with Education Adviser Professor Dr. C.R. Abrar, Porwar raised concerns regarding the infrastructure, development, and MPO enlistment of several educational institutions in Dumuria and Phultala. He urged the adviser to expedite improvements in the education sector and facilitate infrastructural development. Dr. Abrar assured him that the issues would be seriously considered.

In a separate meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Jamaat leader strongly demanded the withdrawal of politically motivated and false cases filed against Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists during the previous authoritarian regime. He also highlighted concerns over law and order, including intimidation and threats faced by the local Hindu community from political elements. The adviser attentively listened and instructed the relevant authorities to take appropriate actions.

Porwar also met with Water Resources and Environment Adviser Syeda Rezwana Hasan to discuss the long-standing waterlogging crisis in the southern parts of Khulna, specifically in areas such as Bill Dakatia, Bill Salatia, Bill Baruna, Bill Madhugram, and Bill Baduria. He described how years of stagnant water have devastated croplands, submerged homes, and disrupted daily life.

In response, Adviser Hasan immediately announced the formation of a special task force involving officials from relevant departments. The task force will take swift, coordinated action to address and resolve the waterlogging crisis. She further assured government support in the form of machinery, resources, and technical assistance.

“The government is committed to finding a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem and visible actions will be taken soon,” said Hasan.

Porwar welcomed the government’s initiative and expressed hope for speedy implementation, emphasizing the suffering endured by the people of Khulna for far too long.
