NEWS DESKForeign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has confirmed that Bangladeshi nationals stranded in Nepal amid political unrest are safe. He said they will be able to return home once flights on the Dhaka-Kathmandu route resume normal operations.
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (September 10), the adviser said that all Bangladeshis, including members of the national football team, are safe. “As long as the airport remains closed, nothing can be done. Bringing them through India is not an option since none of them hold Indian visas,” he explained.
He further mentioned that during demonstrations in Nepal, protesters had visited hotels in search of politicians but left respectfully upon seeing the Bangladesh football team. “They have no ill feelings toward us, so I don’t believe there will be any crisis,” he said.
Touhid Hossain added that the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal is maintaining constant communication with the stranded nationals. “We hope everyone will return safely. It will just take some time, and waiting is the only option,” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the renewal of the Ganges water-sharing treaty, he noted that a meeting between Bangladesh and India was held in New Delhi on Tuesday. “I have not yet received any updated information from the meeting. Once I do, I will share it,” he added.
