Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has prepared to field candidates in all 300 parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming national election but may leave up to 100 seats open for potential political alliances or electoral compromises, said the party’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Parwar.

Speaking on Friday, October 3, at a member reunion event of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Khulna's Sonadanga area, Parwar said, “While we have completed preparations to contest all 300 seats, we may not field candidates in all of them. The Ameer of Jamaat has given me an idea—due to political understanding, we might need to leave around 100 seats and contest in at least 200.”

He emphasized that now is the most opportune time to bring Islamic values into the national parliament and called on former student activists to re-engage and take an active role in shaping the country’s future.

The event, held under the slogan “In the spirit of harmony, back to our roots,” featured emotional recollections of past leaders and activists. Parwar paid tribute to key figures from Khulna’s student movement and urged all Jamaat workers to fully commit to the electoral field.

Jamaat leaders also emphasized unity, organizational discipline, and the importance of accepting party decisions regarding candidate nominations. Parwar reminded members that political power is ultimately granted by God and cautioned against arrogance in the pursuit of authority.

He also noted that electoral systems such as proportional representation (PR) are practiced in 91 countries and called for open discussions on whether any model would be suitable for Bangladesh.

The program was attended by senior Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir leaders, including Islami Chhatra Shibir Central Secretary General Nurul Islam Saddam, who praised their student movement’s growing presence in historically left-leaning institutions like Dhaka and Jahangirnagar universities.
