Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam has announced that the upcoming national parliamentary elections will be held in February, before the month of Ramadan. He also stated that the election schedule will be announced in the first part of December, and the registration process for expatriate voters will begin in November.

Speaking at a press conference in Patuakhali on Friday (October 31), Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam said, “The next national election will take place before Ramadan, in February. The election schedule will be declared in early December. However, no final decision has yet been made regarding whether the election will be held earlier or later. We have not yet received any official communication from the government about their preparations for the election. Once a decision is made, we will inform you.”

He further mentioned that the election plan has already been prepared, expressing optimism about holding a free and fair election with the cooperation of the media.

According to the Election Work Plan Regulations, certain symbols and schedules are subject to periodic modification, amendment, and revision.

The registration process for expatriate voters will start in November, and the Election Commission has also taken steps to ensure that prison inmates can cast their votes. However, the final decision on this matter will depend on political approval from the government.

In response to a question, the Election Commissioner said, “The issue of proportional representation (PR) is a political decision that must come from the government.”

The press briefing was held at the Patuakhali Circuit House, attended by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, and other administrative officials. Afterward, Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam left for Kuakata to attend a workshop.
