The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has found evidence that Beximco Group Vice Chairman Salman F Rahman and 17 affiliated corporate entities laundered nearly USD 97 million (around Tk 1,200 crore) abroad under the guise of foreign trade.

At a press briefing held at the CID Headquarters in Malibagh, Dhaka, CID Chief Sibgat Ullah confirmed that the Financial Crime Unit has obtained approval to submit charge sheets in 17 money laundering cases filed with Motijheel Police Station on September 17 and 18, 2024, against Salman F Rahman, Beximco Group Chairman ASF Rahman, and several associates. The charge sheets will be filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

The approved charge sheets name 28 individuals and 19 entities. Salman F Rahman, who is currently in jail, has been arrested in these cases. The CID earlier arrested Wasiur Rahman, managing director and shareholder of Autumn Loop Apparels Limited, in July 2025.

According to the CID investigation, between 2020 and 2024, the accused laundered money abroad using 17 corporate entities, including Adventure Garments, Apollo Apparels, Autumn Loop Apparels, Bextex Garments, Cosmopolitan Apparels, Cozy Apparels, Esses Fashion, International Knitwear and Apparels, Kanchpur Apparels, Midwest Garments, Peerless Garments, Pink Maker Garments, Platinum Garments, Skynet Apparels, Springful Apparels, Urban Fashions, and Winter Sprint Garments Limited.

Investigators found that these companies opened letters of credit (LCs) or sales contracts through Janata Bank PLC's Motijheel branch but failed to repatriate export proceeds to Bangladesh. Instead, the earnings were transferred through RR Global Trading in Dubai to destinations including UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UK, USA, Ireland, and other countries. RR Global Trading is registered in the names of Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman, son of Salman F Rahman, and Ahmed Shahriar Rahman, son of ASF Rahman.

Following court orders, the CID has seized significant assets of the accused, including 2,000 decimals of land and establishments in Dohar, Dhaka, a 6,189 sqft flat in Gulshan's "The Envoy" building, and a 2,713 sqft triplex flat, also in Gulshan. Multiple bank accounts have been frozen, and travel bans imposed. The current market value of the seized assets is estimated at Tk 600-700 crore.

CID officials said the Financial Crime Unit completed all necessary procedures and submitted charge sheets in all 17 cases in record time, despite the complex nature of trade-based money laundering investigations.
