Following the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi, the government has assigned armed security personnel to 20 individuals considered to be at heightened security risk.

Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury disclosed the information on Monday while briefing reporters after a meeting of the law and order committee at the Secretariat. He said that, so far, gunmen have been provided to 20 people based on security assessments.

When asked whether only political figures were receiving gunmen, the adviser declined to provide specific details. He said intelligence agencies—including the DGFI, NSI, and SB—had prepared a list of individuals facing security threats. Many on the list have been given gunmen, although some declined the offer, he added.

Sources said the list includes former interim government adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam; NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain; Chief Coordinator for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah; Chief Coordinator for the northern region Sarjis Alam; Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary; and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara.

The Gonodhikar Parishad has also confirmed that its President Nurul Haq Nur and General Secretary Rashed Khan are receiving armed security.

In addition, several politicians and parliamentary aspirants have applied for gunmen and firearm licenses. Jamaat-e-Islami has submitted an application to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking round-the-clock gunman protection and armed police security at the residence of its Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman.

Security has also been sought for Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju; Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha; Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed; Chief Coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki; and Islami Andolon Bangladesh Secretary General Yunus Ahmed Sheikh, among others.
Authorities said security decisions are being made based on threat assessments amid the current law and order situation.
