A high-level special committee of the National Parliament has recommended blocking 20 out of 133 ordinances issued during the interim government’s tenure. Presenting the report today, Committee Chairman Jainul Abedin proposed the outright repeal of four significant ordinances, including those related to the appointment of Supreme Court judges and the establishment of a separate Supreme Court Secre

The report suggests that 16 ordinances, including those on enforced disappearances, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and referendums, should not be passed immediately but instead be restructured into more robust bills. Of the remaining 113 ordinances, 98 were recommended for introduction as bills in their original form, while 15 were suggested for amendment. All ordinances must be approved as bills by April 12 to remain legally valid.

The four ordinances recommended for repeal are the National Parliament Secretariat (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2024, the Supreme Court Judge Appointment Ordinance 2025, and two others related to the Supreme Court Secretariat. The opposition has notably submitted 'Notes of Dissent' on 14 of the committee's recommendations, highlighting a lack of consensus on key legislative reforms.
