Bangladesh has formally proposed naming a street in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, after Bangladesh as a symbolic and lasting tribute to the growing friendship between the two nations.

The proposal was raised on Thursday during a courtesy meeting between Bangladesh’s Minister of Cultural Affairs, Nitya Roy Chowdhury, and Argentine Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcelo Carlos César. The meeting also focused on ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and cultural ties.

During the discussions, Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the current government is committed to expanding relations with Argentina under its “Bangladesh First” policy, based on mutual respect, equality, and shared interests.

He noted that despite the warm relations between the two countries, no formal cultural agreement has yet been signed. Bangladesh has already submitted a draft Cultural Cooperation Agreement and hopes the process can be finalized at the earliest opportunity.

As part of efforts to give bilateral ties a unique and enduring identity, the Bangladeshi side formally proposed naming a road in Buenos Aires after Bangladesh. The initiative is intended to symbolize the deepening friendship and people-to-people connection between the two countries.

Bangladesh also proposed an environmentally friendly collaboration involving the transfer and cultivation of selected traditional Bangladeshi plant species in Argentina. Officials highlighted the similarities in climate and weather conditions between the two countries as a favorable factor for such an initiative.

Speaking about strengthening cultural and public engagement, Ambassador Marcelo Carlos César revealed that four highly popular Argentine social media influencers and bloggers will visit Bangladesh during the ongoing FIFA World Cup period.

The influencers are expected to document the extraordinary enthusiasm, passion, and support shown by millions of Bangladeshi fans for the Argentine national football team. Their content will be widely shared in Argentina, offering Argentine audiences a closer look at the unique bond that has developed between the people of the two nations through football.

Both sides expressed optimism that cultural exchanges, public diplomacy initiatives, and increased people-to-people interactions will further enhance the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Argentina.
