Oman has introduced a new visa policy aimed at strengthening its tourism sector and making entry easier for international visitors. Under the new regulations, citizens of selected countries will be eligible for a free 14-day tourist visa.

The measure was introduced through amendments to the Executive Regulations of the Foreigners' Residence Law. The changes were enacted under Decision No. 109/2026, issued by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsin Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. The new provisions took effect the day after their publication in the Official Gazette.

According to the amended regulations, the relevant authorities may grant eligible nationals from designated countries a 14-day tourist visa at no cost, subject to specified conditions.

The regulations also allow visitors to convert the free 14-day visa into another category of tourist visa before it expires. Applicants seeking an extension or conversion must meet the eligibility requirements for the new visa category and pay the applicable fees.

The new visa category has been added to Article 10 of the Executive Regulations and included in the official list of entry visas under Article 29. The fee for the visa has been set at zero Omani rials, making it completely free.

However, Omani authorities have not yet announced the list of countries whose citizens will qualify for the visa waiver. Officials said the list of eligible countries will be released at a later date, and only nationals of those countries will be entitled to the benefit.

The new provisions will supersede any previous regulations that conflict with the updated rules.

Tourism analysts say the initiative is intended to attract more international visitors, encourage short-term travel, and enhance Oman's competitiveness as a regional tourism destination. By simplifying visa procedures, the country hopes to significantly increase the number of foreign tourists in the coming years.
