Hungarian Writer László Krasznahorkai Wins Nobel Prize in Literature

Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025. The Swedish Academy announced his victory on Thursday, October 9.

The Nobel Committee stated that Krasznahorkai received the award for his exceptional and visionary work in reaffirming the power of art amid the horrors of the final stages of time.

Born in 1954 in the small Hungarian town of Jilava, Krasznahorkai is recognized as an epic writer with a deep connection to Central European tradition. His works often explore themes of existential despair, spiritual searching, and the intricate relationship between humans and the universe.

From 1901 to 2024, the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to 121 authors, with László Krasznahorkai becoming the recipient for the 118th time. Last year, the award went to South Korean author Han Kang.

Krasznahorkai’s literary contributions have earned him a lasting place in the world of literature, where his powerful narrative style continues to influence writers and readers alike.
