Amid the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East, Iran has claimed it destroyed a sophisticated U.S. radar system stationed in Qatar.
Several Iranian media outlets reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a precision missile strike that allegedly destroyed the United States’ key early-warning radar system, the AN/FPS-132, in the Gulf region.
According to Tehran-based reports, the radar system—capable of monitoring targets at distances of up to 5,000 kilometers—was installed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The system was reportedly set up in 2013 at a cost of approximately $1.1 billion and has been considered a critical component of U.S. ballistic missile detection and defense operations.
The IRGC claimed that the successful strike has created a significant vulnerability in the air defense systems of the United States and its regional allies in the Gulf.
Iranian media further alleged that some Qatari officials had acknowledged damage to the facility. However, the United States has not yet issued any official statement regarding the claim.
Analysts say that if confirmed, the destruction of such a high-value asset could have major implications for the regional military balance and may further intensify the ongoing conflict.
