Abdul El-Sayed Defeats Pro-Israel Lobby Spending in Michigan Senate Primary

Progressive public health advocate Abdul El-Sayed has secured a historic victory in the Democratic Senate primary in Michigan, overcoming a massive $60 million campaign onslaught funded by pro-Israel groups. According to a report by Middle East Eye on Wednesday, this result is being viewed as a significant setback for the influential pro-Israel lobby group, AIPAC.

AIPAC led the opposition against El-Sayed, spending over $30 million to support his rival, Congresswoman Haley Stevens. Despite the flood of negative advertisements targeting his identity as an Arab-American Muslim, voters prioritized policy and public welfare. Maya Berry, Executive Director of the non-partisan Arab American Institute, hailed the win as a major milestone, noting that voters rejected personal attacks in favor of substantive leadership.

El-Sayed is now set to face former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers in the November general election. This Michigan seat is pivotal, as it could determine which party controls the Senate during the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term. If elected, the Egyptian-American will become the first-ever Muslim Senator in US history. El-Sayed has been a vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza, labeling them "genocide" and arguing that taxpayer funds should be redirected from foreign conflicts to domestic priorities like healthcare and housing.
