Trump Warns of Further Retaliation Against Iran if Diplomacy Fails

President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States is engaged in productive talks with Iran, while simultaneously warning that failure to reach a deal will result in severe military consequences.

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump revealed that while the US had prepared for the largest military strike since World War II, diplomatic channels were opened following a request from Tehran.

"We have hit them very hard, and they know what's coming if they step back," the President stated. "I truly hope we don't have to resort to a major strike, but if they don't reach a deal, the situation will be very bad for them." Trump emphasized that Iran would never be permitted to possess nuclear weapons and warned that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened immediately to ensure the free flow of oil.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that negotiations are progressing. Rubio noted that while a final agreement with Iran and Oman has not yet been solidified, they are close to ensuring safer passage for vessels. Secretary Bessent added that a breakthrough regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could be announced shortly, moving the region toward a more normalized status. The administration has yet to disclose the specific terms of the potential agreement.
