The Israeli military has intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, marking a retaliatory action just a day after Israeli airstrikes in the Houthi-held Yemeni capital, Sanaa, killed at least 35 people. This incident comes amid Israel’s ongoing military operations across several Middle Eastern countries.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the missile attack. However, Iran-backed Houthi rebels have frequently launched missiles and drones at Israel since October 2023, following the outbreak of war in Gaza in response to a surprise Hamas attack.
According to a statement posted on Telegram by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the missile was intercepted shortly after air raid sirens were heard in several areas of Israel.
On Wednesday, Israel carried out airstrikes targeting the Houthi armed forces in Sanaa, as well as in other strategic locations, including a Houthi complex in Al-Jawf province.
Anis al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Houthi health ministry, reported that 28 people were killed and 113 injured in Sanaa. In Al-Jawf, near the Saudi border, another seven people were killed and 18 wounded.
Last month, Israel targeted a government meeting in Sanaa, resulting in the deaths of Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser al-Rahabi, nine ministers, and two other cabinet officials.
Notably, the attack on Qatar appears to be part of a broader Israeli military campaign. Over the past 72 hours, Israel has launched strikes on six countries — Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Qatar, and Yemen. The offensive began on Monday, when an Israeli strike on Gaza killed 150 people and wounded at least 540.
